How to store eggs: in the refrigerator or out of it?

Eggs are a popular product in every home. Often, poultry owners are faced with the question of how to store eggs properly? After all, such a product, in case of improper storage, can turn into a dangerous source of infectious diseases. Among most people, there is an opinion that they should be stored in the refrigerator. But is it the only repository? It all depends on the period of their storage.

When eggs can be stored without a refrigerator

In cases of equipment breakdown, or lack thereof, there is an urgent need to keep your products fresh as long as possible. Also, when breeding poultry, there is an excess of eggs and there is simply not enough space for them. And then the question becomes “how much can you store eggs without a refrigerator?”.

Like other products, they can only be stored outside the refrigerator for a certain period. A fresh egg can be left in the refrigerator for up to 7 days, in theory it can take longer, but after a week the risk is already high. In summer, this period is reduced to 3-4 days. To ensure that the product does not deteriorate, it should be placed away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. It is not recommended to rinse before storage. Under the influence of water, its natural membrane protection will be destroyed. Many people believe that a boiled egg can be stored much longer than raw. However, it is not. It spoils much faster. For example, a raw egg remains suitable outside the refrigerator for up to 12 days. The boiled man needs 5 days to spoil. Therefore, it is better to store eggs raw.

In European countries, it is not customary to put eggs in a refrigerator. This practice is based on the fact that there they scrupulously adhere to all the necessary sanitary standards and vaccinations. Not only bird farms adhere to these norms, but also private owners who have chickens in their farm. With this approach, eggs are stored for up to three weeks, provided that the temperature is optimal.

When laying eggs in the refrigerator

A refrigerator is needed for long-term storage. In it, the poultry product can be stored for up to 90 days. Then the egg becomes unusable.

It is worth noting! Refrigerators are not just equipped with special trays on the door. It is in this part that the optimum temperature for a long and comfortable stay of eggs.

For proper storage of the product in the refrigerator, the following rules should be observed:

  • Keep away from other products. eggs absorb odors well. This adversely affects quality;
  • Spread on the tray with the sharp side down. This is to prevent contact of the yolk with the layer of air that is at the blunt end;
  • If the egg is contaminated, you can wrap it in paper so as not to contaminate the tray, but not to wash it.

Tip. The best place to store is a compartment for fruits and vegetables.

Other storage tips:

  • The fresher the eggs, the longer they can be stored;
  • Eggs purchased at the store are stored for no more than 45 days. Domestic eggs have a long shelf life - up to 4 months. The optimum storage temperature is from +2 to -4 degrees. Humidity should be no more than 80%;
  • Broken and chipped eggs should be used during the day.

In order to get the necessary benefits from food, it should be properly stored. Eggs are no exception. After the expiration date, they will turn into a source of departure.
