What is PQI on TV

Many users find it difficult to select a specific TV model. This is not surprising, since currently there is a wide variety of very different variations of TV receivers, which differ from each other not only in price, but also in quality. Today, when store shelves are filled with various TV models, there is a need for a uniform gradation of image quality. To this end, various companies create a variety of ratings. As, for example, Samsung introduced a special PQI parameter for different models of TV receivers.

What is PQI on TV

For TVs, the most important option is the image. In order to compare different models of TVs, the user needs to understand many subtleties. For example, how does the screen size differ from its resolution or how to compare contrast levels. In order to make it more convenient for the user to navigate in the variety of models, Samsung introduced a convenient gradation of image quality on its TV models. This parameter is called PQI.

REFERENCE! This index serves not only as a gradation of image quality, but also subdivides models by price segments. The maximum value for this rating is 2700, while the minimum is 100.

It should be clarified that TV devices with the PQI 100 parameter are not always outsiders in the quality of the image, since even the minimum parameter provides a decent image on the TV screen. Of course, a TV with an index in the region of 100 will be inferior to a device whose rating exceeds 2000, but as a budget TV, this device has the right to exist.

Criteria Affecting the PQI

This rating is compiled on the basis of several criteria, but the main ones that form the nominal value are resolution and color. Each of them should be considered.

Resolution shows what image quality the TV supports. From simple HD to ultramodern technology 8k, which appeared on the market recently.

The color parameter is responsible for the quality of the color gamut on the display of the device. Typically, Samsung TVs are divided into two color-rendering technologies, Purcolor and Quantom Dot. These parameters are taken into account in the rating.

The PQI index allows the user to select the device with the highest quality image. The higher the device is in this rating, the better its basic parameters, such as:

  1. Contrast of brightness. This parameter is responsible for the saturation of colors, as well as for the clarity of the lines. Also, contrast is important for displaying black. Often, some technologies cannot correctly display black color on the device display. However, with modern models, this problem is a thing of the past.
  2. Motion. This characteristic is responsible for the number of frames per second. Frame rate is an important parameter for comfortable watching movies and TV shows. A high level of this characteristic is especially necessary when watching sports programs.
  3. Noise reduction. During image transmission, some “noise” is possible. This is due to signal conversion, which inevitably affects the quality of the picture. Modern technology can minimize this problem.

Thus, any user will be able to choose the most suitable TV model from Samsung, without going into the study of the detailed details about the functioning of these devices.

ATTENTION! It is difficult for the naked eye to distinguish models that are in neighboring places in the ranking. For example, models with PQI 2000 and PQI 2100 for a simple layman will be identical. At the same time, if these two parameters are 100 and 2100, respectively, the difference between the image quality on these two devices will be extremely significant.

That is why the user can pre-determine the image quality on the TV screen, not including it. It is enough to open the technical documentation or drive this model into the search. And the derived PQI index will show how high-quality the image is transmitted by this TV receiver.
