DIY screen

Not everyone in the house has a screen, but it will certainly be useful in any apartment. With its help, you can fence off a room, hang something on it or hide things that you do not need to see to the prying eye.

It’s not at all necessary, having realized how many advantages this item has, to run to the store. Making a screen on your own is quite simple, and also does not require a large amount of additional materials. In this article you will learn how to do the job correctly, from which you can make such a necessary thing, and how to prevent annoying mistakes that will make you redo everything.

What improvised materials can I make a screen

In order to make a beautiful and interesting thing that will undoubtedly decorate any interior, you can use various materials already available in the house. For example:

  • If you have special skills, and at home there are unnecessary boards, then you can turn to the traditional option. Wooden screens enjoyed success for quite a long time and were a sign of excellent taste and nobility of the owners of the house.
  • Another, more complex, material will be metal. In most cases, frames for the screen are made from it. Various ornaments and other decorative elements can also be made that are right for your interior.
  • Plastic pipes - such a screen, of course, will no longer look as luxurious as the previous ones, but it will retain all the advantages. In addition, it is easy to disassemble, and then reassemble and move around the apartment or house. In hot weather, you can take her out into the yard and take cover from the scorching sun.
  • Plastic panels are a great and incredibly lightweight option. You can select several identical panels, connect and the screen is ready! It is also able to withstand any weather, so it is suitable for the street.
  • Another very simple and cheap option is cardboard, but it is worth considering that it is not suitable for the street, and it is rarely durable at home. It is suitable if the screen is required for a short time, for example, in the evening, when other people's children come to the house who can ruin something.
  • Branches: bamboo or reed, branches will never go out of style. They are in perfect harmony with most styles and look simple, but at the same time not boring.

DIY cardboard screen

The easiest and fastest way to make a screen yourself will be to make it from thick cardboard. Surely in every house there will be several unnecessary sheets of this material, for example, bought for children at school, but never used. In addition, it will be possible to decorate such a screen according to your own taste and desire, so that it not only fits the decor of the room, but also suits you, as well as being original.

Necessary materials and tools

In addition to cardboard, you will also need such materials and tools:

  • Scotch;
  • scissors or clerical knife;
  • paints or fabric for decor.

As a basis for cardboard, you can take boxes from the refrigerator or other large household appliances. This material is the easiest to handle, and it is also very dense cardboard, which will be relatively durable. In order to make the screen look more interesting, it will be possible to colorize it, paste applications or simply attach pieces of beautiful fabric to it.

We make the basis

First of all, you will need to cut the box on top and bottom so that only large sidewalls remain. Paired details should be cut mirror-like and be exactly the same, otherwise the screen will turn out to be crooked and will not stand correctly.

If you decide to add a pattern, then its coils should be repeated, but then start from one, then from the second edge. Then the drawing will turn out uniform and accurate.

With ordinary cardboard the same way - cut out the basics and, if necessary, a pattern to subsequently connect the parts. Be careful and pre-determine the size of each part so as not to make mistakes. It’s better to check everything several times than subsequently redo and waste material and time.

Final stage

Now the blanks need to be attached to each other with solid sides and glued with tape. The number of parts will always be 1 more than the number of seams. For example, if you have two pieces, then the seam will be one, if three - two and so on.

IMPORTANT! Please note that the details need to be glued only on the reverse side, then the screen will stick together better and easier.

How to decorate a screen from improvised materials

In order to decorate the resulting product, there are many different ideas. Here you need to show imagination and use everything that is available at home: fabrics, colored paper, paints or even rhinestones.

For those who can draw, there is nothing easier than to decorate something - show your talent. Do not paint the screen in one tone, add brightness and funny drawings.

You can also use self-adhesive film, colored tape and other materials.

Now you know how to make a useful screen for your home yourself and what you need!
